Yet Another Blog is Born

I want to welcome you to the start of yet another blog that I hope will be engaging, insightful and somewhat entertaining (I know, it’s a tall order, but you have to start somewhere). We are blog number 4,815,162,342 on the internet and aim to rise above the not-so-small army of bloggers out there and with any luck, you’ll get lost in this blog and add us to your daily news feed.

This is a place where you can come and join the conversation about interesting products, services and technology used by companies in WNY. We use the term WNY loosely and have no hard & fast rules as to which companies we highlight. In the coming weeks we’ll start to interview CIO’s, Lead Architects, Developers (basically anyone who will talk with us) and post the interviews here. I have a fundamental belief there are more technology related companies/work in this area than people realize. Are we known as the “silicon valley of the north” – no. Are we known as the “Great Lakes Technology Incubator of the East” – no. But, we have all the makings of fulfilling those titles. It’s our goal to change that perception – one blog post at a time.

If you would like to be featured here – leave us a comment and we’ll be in touch to schedule an interview.

I’d love to tell you that I have a documented, reviewed and approved ‘strategic plan’ for this blog. But I can’t – that would be lying and I certainly don’t want to do that on the first post. The content will be supplied by me and several other authors – all who have the same vision, drive and interest in promoting technology & companies in WNY. I’ll let each of them introduce themselves is future posts.

I have to thank the folks at InfoTech Niagara for their support, encouragement and helping to launch this blog – I hope it’s going to be a wild ride.

As a little test to our early readers, I have bragging rights for the first person to tell me the meaning of the blog number listed above. Think you know what it is? – leave us a comment. btw – I may leave little easter eggs in my posts, from time to time. heh heh heh

  1. Vic, I hope this Blog does not get LOST in the blizzard of blogs in the Blogosphere. The blog’s NUMBERS seem quite high.

A short point to regarding technology. I visited the “Commerical Ship” on the waterfront this weekend – what a great beginning – other than the 3 story “WNY storyboard” display – it misses the mark. I hope the the Buffalo Harbor Front Development Corp has plans to “wire” the waterfront…. You think it’s a no brainer, but due to our history of ignoring or mis-mananging the obvious, one needs to ask.

Creating a WIFI area from the marina to the slip boardwalk would help draw folks like myself who may have time to kill, stay in the area longer and enjoy the waterfront. It increases its “stickness” and therefore could help the cafes, stores, etc… that are yet to be developed.

The counterpoint to wiring the waterfront is, “leave technology behind, enjoy the beauty of the area”. I agree, but a wired waterfront gives people options. Hell, I’d love to spend a day at the waterfront – VPN into work and do what I need to do.

You get bragging rights for trying to bring together pieces of the puzzle to get conversation going – which can only lead to good thing and I hope will put things in FLIGHT.

Action, Urgency, and Excellence is what we need.
